Janelle Douthwright

Janelle advises emerging and growing companies across the business lifecycle. She regularly counsels founders, executives, and boards on venture financings, mergers and acquisitions, product launches, commercial transactions, and corporate governance. She also advises on regulatory matters in areas including artificial intelligence, financial services, healthcare, and telecommunications.

Janelle brings a practical, business-minded perspective to her legal practice. Prior to joining Pulse, she was a corporate associate at a prominent Bay Street firm, where she gained experience acting on complex transactions for a wide range of clients. She has acted on transactions ranging in value from $1M to $26B. She then moved in-house as counsel at a high-growth blockchain company, giving her firsthand insight into the operational, strategic, and regulatory challenges that innovative, fast-growing companies face. This combination of private practice and in-house experience allows her to deliver advice that is both legally rigorous and commercially grounded.

Janelle holds a JD from the University of Ottawa, a BA and MA from the University of Toronto, and an MBA Certificate from the Rotman School of Management. Her work has been featured in the Toronto Star and on CBC Radio and has been considered by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. She has also served as a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto and has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles on artificial intelligence and enterprise resource planning.

Clients value Janelle for her thoroughness, her commercial instincts, and her genuine interest in understanding their businesses. She is committed to building long-term relationships and helping her clients move forward on important decisions with a clear understanding of their options.

Outside of work, Janelle enjoys travelling, cooking, and reading non-fiction.
